FAQ

Care, ordering & delivery

What materials do you use?

I work primarily with high-fired stoneware and porcelain. Each glaze is mixed in my studio using formulas chosen to create earthy neutrals, deep browns, cobalt blues, and surfaces shaped by flame and atmosphere.

Functional pieces are finished with food-safe glazes unless otherwise noted. Raku and other alternative-fired work is decorative and is not intended for food, drink, or holding water.

Are your pieces microwave- and dishwasher-safe?

Most functional stoneware is microwave- and dishwasher-safe. However, handmade pottery will last longest when washed by hand and protected from sudden temperature changes.

Any exceptions—including metallic finishes, lusters, raku, and other alternative-fired work—will be clearly identified in the product description.

Will my piece look exactly like the photographs?

Each piece is formed, glazed, and fired individually. Subtle variations in color, glaze movement, shape, and surface are natural—and part of what makes handmade pottery unique.

Whenever a listing includes multiple similar pieces, the item you receive may vary slightly from the example photographed. One-of-a-kind pieces are photographed individually.

Do you accept custom orders?

I accept a limited number of custom projects throughout the year, depending on my studio workload and firing schedule.

If you’re interested in commissioning a piece, please use the Contact page and include what you have in mind, your preferred size or quantity, and your ideal timeline. I’ll respond with availability, estimated timing, and pricing.

Can I pick up my order locally?

Local pickup is available in Methuen, Massachusetts, by appointment. Pickup at an upcoming market or event may also be arranged in advance.

Select Local pickup at checkout, and I’ll email you when your order is ready to coordinate the details.

When will my order ship?

Ready-to-ship pieces typically leave the studio within 3–5 business days. You’ll receive tracking information by email once your order is on its way.

Made-to-order pieces are clearly identified in their listings and generally require 4–8 weeks. Timing may vary depending on drying, glazing, and kiln schedules.

Do you ship internationally?

Not currently. At this time, shipping is available within the United States only.

What happens if my order arrives damaged?

Every piece is packed carefully for transit. If your order arrives damaged, email support@nicklisellapottery.com within 48 hours of delivery.

Please include your order number and clear photographs of the damaged piece, shipping box, and packing materials. Depending on availability, I’ll arrange a replacement or issue a refund.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Because each piece is handmade and often one of a kind, returns or exchanges for changes of mind are not generally accepted.

If your order is incorrect, damaged, or has another problem, please contact me promptly. I want you to feel confident in—and genuinely love—the work you receive.

How often do you restock?

The shop is restocked in small, curated batches rather than on a fixed schedule.

New releases and restock dates are announced on Instagram at @nicklisellapottery and through the studio email list. Sign up for updates to hear about new work first.
